Devil May Cry 4 Review

Devil May Cry 4 see’s us enter the shoes of Nero. Another human/demon hybrid, that finds himself within a holy order bent on fighting demons and gaining power. Of course to true Devil May Cry style Nero uses his abilities to help over come demons that appear within a wonderful new environment.

This time round the developers seem to have thought about new players joining the series by introducing a character that is not only new but blends well into Dante’s world without leaving you with too many questions into who and what devil may cry is.

True to the original combat systems from the earlier games, you are left in the world with a series of weapons to help you combat the new demons that have come to invade the serene world Fortuna. We still have the classic system of a sword (Red Queen), gun (Blue Rose) and your demon hand (Devil Bringer). In a slight twist to the game Nero’s sword seem to take some inspiration from a motor bike as you can rev the sword to help unleash devastating attacks on unsuspecting enemies.

Of course the combat is fast paced as you find yourself constantly fighting against uneven odds, but with every fight your keeping an eye out on your defence and the next best tactic you can use to help you win a fight. For those that like to focus on Combo’s, you will find a wide variety to choose from for each different weapon. But at the same time, for those that prefer to button bash choosing the Automatic mode when starting a game, you can easily pull off a view combos without even realising what you’ve done.

With every Devil May Cry game you can be sure to come across a boss fight to end the chapter, and this one surely doesn’t fall short of bosses, as not only do you have to fight a series of new bosses for the first 11 chapters, each with there own unique combat, detail and tactics, but they have all been made with such amazing artistry that each fight will leave you amazed.

My only main complaint with this game is that we don’t just have to fight the bosses for the first 11 chapters, but that we have to then go back for another round with the same bosses except with new moves and tactics. Now you might see where I’m going with this, but the game does have a sense of receptivity as you go through each level before having to only come back through them all again further into the game. This can as you’d imagine make the game seem quite boring at the first glance, but the developer have come across a way of removing this boring element. They did this by making you go back through the levels as a different character who has a completely different fighting style and combos for you to once again get to grips with. Due to this factor and the amazing work throughout the game there is defiantly an underlying wow factor to each new mob and level you come across.

The story in the game immerses you straight from the start in your typical anime romance, as you find the hero madly in love, shortly into your adventure the love of your life is ripped from your grasp. It is then of course your responsibility to get her back again no matter the cost. The story telling that goes on in the game is truly emotional as at times, you really do find yourself upset or annoyed with the anguish that Nero must feel.

All in all i would definitely recommended buying this game for a run through. Each aspect of the game is defiantly well thought of a great value for money, whether your a Devil May Cry veteran or new comer, I personally cant wait to see if they bring out another great chapter in this series.
